Welcome back to the 35th episode of Skeletal Leap: A Living Adventure!

Today’s episode titled “Historical Reference: Historical Timeline of 12k Years!” will tell you about historical reference with historical timeline of the past 12,000 years.

Human cultural and social institutions are the most recent developments to emerge from a speedy evolution of the brain.

Around 12,000 years ago, the mind had already established its dominance as a partially autonomous entity vis-à-vis the brain.

It was around then that human cultural and social institutions started getting structured as hunter-gatherers adopted an agricultural lifestyle.

This lifestyle comprised farming and rearing domestic animals for food, milk and wool. It marked the end of the Paleolithic period and the beginning of Mesolithic and Neolithic periods.

SKELETAL LEAP, the mind body connection for mind and body healing, is a giant leap that our skeleton can take through the way it postures its joints.

I had stumbled upon this miracle many years ago, coincidentally

It took me quite a few years to analyze it fully, and then a few more to turn the results of my analysis into a feasible action plan.

I come up with a new weekly episode every Tuesday morning for miraculous healing enthusiasts to effectively start their weekdays with what they like the most!

Historical Reference: Historical Timeline of 12k Years!

In this enlightening episode of Skeletal Leap: A Living Adventure, titled “Historical Reference: Historical Timeline of 12k Years!”, I take you on a journey through the evolution of human culture and social institutions over the past 12,000 years.

Beginning with the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture, I explore how this pivotal shift not only changed lifestyles but also led to the establishment of permanent settlements and the concept of private property.

As humans began to cultivate land and rear animals, the foundations of societal structures were laid, giving rise to rudimentary monarchies and the birth of business.

The episode explains the health implications of these changes, revealing how a once-active lifestyle gave way to sedentary habits, leading to health issues and the rise of patriarchal system that altered family dynamics.

I highlight the emergence of marriage as a formal institution and discuss the complex relationship between property ownership and societal evolution.

As I progress through history, I witness the rise and fall of civilizations, the impact of warfare, and the advent of money as a means of trade.

The narrative culminates in a reflection on the achievements and losses humanity has faced, particularly in light of the challenges posed by industrialization and climate change.

Join me as I synthesize historical records, examining the delicate balance between human progress and the environmental crises we face today. This episode is a compelling reminder of our past and a call to reflect on the future of our civilization.

Historical Timeline of The Past 12,000 Years
Human cultural and social institutions are the

0:00:51.600,0:00:58.880
most recent developments to emerge from a speedy
evolution of the brain. Around 12,000 years ago,

0:00:58.880,0:01:06.960
the mind had already established its dominance as
a partially autonomous entity vis-à-vis the brain.

0:01:06.960,0:01:12.240
From Hunting-Gathering to Farming
It was around then that human

0:01:12.240,0:01:17.440
cultural and social institutions started
getting structured as hunter-gatherers

0:01:17.440,0:01:23.600
adopted an agricultural lifestyle.
This lifestyle comprised farming and

0:01:23.600,0:01:32.080
rearing domestic animals for food, milk and wool.
It marked the end of the Paleolithic period and

0:01:32.080,0:01:39.440
the beginning of Mesolithic and Neolithic periods.
Humans slowly and gradually stopped living

0:01:39.440,0:01:46.160
in caves that they had adorned with
paintings, in favor of huts and skin tents.

0:01:46.800,0:01:54.000
They had already started using fire for heating
and cooking as early as 0.5 million years ago.

0:01:54.000,0:02:02.720
They had also developed language to communicate
with others between 150,000-50,000 years ago. Now,

0:02:02.720,0:02:06.880
with the agricultural revolution,
they started constructing individual

0:02:06.880,0:02:12.240
dwellings with mud bricks and timber on
the lands they had started cultivating.

0:02:12.880,0:02:19.440
Paleolithic humans had started wearing loincloths
and tunics prepared from plants and animal skins

0:02:19.440,0:02:27.680
by chewing them to make flexible. They also wore
rudimentary shoes. In the Neolithic period, woven

0:02:27.680,0:02:35.120
garments started appearing, mostly from wool.
Lifestyle Changes

0:02:35.120,0:02:39.760
Nomadic tribal lifestyle gave way to
permanent settlements on the farmlands

0:02:39.760,0:02:46.320
as farming became the major source of food.
It gave them more control over their lifestyle

0:02:46.320,0:02:51.920
with largely increased food production
and a more efficient security system.

0:02:51.920,0:02:58.000
The tools became sharper from grinding.
With the faculty of the mind having gained

0:02:58.000,0:03:03.200
dominance over the faculty of the brain,
the control of the tribes shifted from

0:03:03.200,0:03:10.320
elders to military and religious leaders,
giving birth to rudimentary monarchies.

0:03:10.320,0:03:17.440
Personal Ownership of Resources Was Born
At this juncture of time came one of

0:03:17.440,0:03:23.120
the most important shifts in human
culture. In the Paleolithic period,

0:03:23.120,0:03:30.480
there was no concept or need of private property
ownership. By the Neolithic period, though,

0:03:30.480,0:03:38.800
people started having individual ownership of
land, domestic animals and tools. Thus entered

0:03:38.800,0:03:44.960
the concept of the crudest form of prosperity
in human culture, changing it forever. It

0:03:45.760,0:03:53.040
was the seed that ultimately grew up as a huge
and mighty tree of money ruling the world.

0:03:53.040,0:04:00.160
Health Took Its First Toll
Paleolithic humans were taller and healthier

0:04:00.160,0:04:06.720
owing to a primarily active lifestyle that was
combined with lots of free time at their disposal.

0:04:07.520,0:04:13.280
The relatively more sedentary lifestyle
of the Neolithic period turned people

0:04:13.280,0:04:19.920
shorter and more prone to diseases.
Tooth decay and typhoid were the main ones

0:04:19.920,0:04:28.400
among them which lowered their life expectancy.
As people got settled, women started bearing

0:04:28.400,0:04:36.640
more children resulting in a population explosion.
Their food comprised more cereals like wheat, corn

0:04:36.640,0:04:44.960
and rice. It wasn’t as nutritiously balanced as
that of Palaeolithic humans which comprised meat,

0:04:44.960,0:04:53.280
fruits and roots. That is how farming not only
took its toll on Neolithic humans’ health but

0:04:53.280,0:05:00.960
also made them much busier than before.
The Birth of Marriage & Family

0:05:00.960,0:05:06.080
Apart from private property, another
institution started appearing in its

0:05:06.080,0:05:12.400
rudimentary form – the family.
During the Paleolithic period,

0:05:12.400,0:05:19.280
there was a naturally balanced distribution of
labor between males and females. While men went

0:05:19.280,0:05:26.480
for hunting, women took charge of gathering
and they all ate together. Life was simple.

0:05:26.480,0:05:32.960
Sex happened in a spontaneous way of attraction
rather than a lifelong commitment to one single

0:05:32.960,0:05:39.920
person. Children belonged to the community
along with their mothers. Fatherhood wasn’t

0:05:39.920,0:05:45.200
exclusive but inclusive.
But in the Neolithic period,

0:05:45.200,0:05:53.280
all these equations started changing. As a result
(or cause) of population explosion, women had to

0:05:53.280,0:05:59.680
be much busier in the act of bearing children.
Most of the time, they weren’t fit enough to

0:05:59.680,0:06:07.280
carry on the laborious chores of farming. With the
passage of time, it gave them a subjugated status

0:06:07.280,0:06:14.000
where the male headed the family and the female
status got degraded. Her main role got limited

0:06:14.000,0:06:22.480
to that of being a child-bearing machine and her
main value to that of being the object of sex.

0:06:22.480,0:06:28.640
She almost lost her natural right to
sleep with the man of her choice. In fact,

0:06:28.640,0:06:33.520
she slowly got restricted to just playing
the role of a bed partner to her children’s

0:06:33.520,0:06:41.040
father. This was a gradual shift from an
egalitarian society toward patriarchy.

0:06:41.600,0:06:49.120
It went on like this until it officially got
approved as marriage. Marriage as an institution

0:06:49.120,0:06:59.600
was announced to be a lifelong one-man,
one-woman relationship ultimately around 2350 BC.

0:06:59.600,0:07:07.200
From there, it evolved to be the most basic unit
of society, spreading far and wide separately by

0:07:07.200,0:07:16.240
every culture, surprisingly all through the world.
The Birth of Rudimentary Business

0:07:16.240,0:07:22.320
Transition from the mode of hunting-gathering to
that of agriculture and cattle-rearing resulted in

0:07:22.320,0:07:31.120
increased food production. Nomadic life had come
to an end as sedentary lifestyle became a norm,

0:07:31.120,0:07:38.000
adversely affecting health through increasing
infections. Only a few members of a community

0:07:38.000,0:07:44.560
were sufficient to grow food for the needs
of the entire community. This left members of

0:07:44.560,0:07:51.760
communities with a lot of free time on hand.
Side by side, communities started needing a

0:07:51.760,0:07:58.560
few more things than food alone. The main
ones among these new impending needs were:

0:07:58.560,0:08:08.880
Permanent durable building structures | Clothes |
Medical treatment | Education | Tools | Utensils

0:08:08.880,0:08:13.680
There were members of the agricultural
communities who specialized in learning

0:08:13.680,0:08:21.520
and providing for these new needs. Thus came into
existence different kinds of trades and tradesmen

0:08:21.520,0:08:31.280
like farmers, masons, weavers, healers, teachers,
blacksmiths, potters et cetera. They offered their

0:08:31.280,0:08:39.840
services and products to others. In turn, others
provided them with what they had in surplus.

0:08:39.840,0:08:44.320
The Birth of State
This was how the ancient

0:08:44.320,0:08:50.800
business started taking shape with a barter
system as its primary mode of transaction.

0:08:50.800,0:08:56.960
First, small villages took shape, followed
by bigger towns in their vicinity serving

0:08:56.960,0:09:04.240
as market hubs for barter-based businesses.
Ultimately, an entity called the state took

0:09:04.240,0:09:11.120
shape comprising a number of towns and villages
to keep them secure. Other communities could

0:09:11.120,0:09:17.920
attack them and snatch away what they had. In
the absence of a means to wider interaction,

0:09:17.920,0:09:24.000
communities had their world-view limited
to the boundaries of their own communities.

0:09:24.000,0:09:29.040
Arms & Ammunition to Armies
The state needed the strong

0:09:29.040,0:09:36.320
men of these communities to promise safety to all
its members and their businesses. For this, they

0:09:36.320,0:09:43.680
would require more strength under their control.
Hence the friendly ones combined to make states

0:09:43.680,0:09:50.960
and created armies equipped with new products
for them called weapons. The person at the helm

0:09:50.960,0:09:57.680
of this new institution became the autocratic
king whose wishes became the laws of the land.

0:09:58.480,0:10:05.840
Many such states came to existence that would,
again, often keep fighting against one another.

0:10:05.840,0:10:11.040
With the passage of time, the winners kept on
getting stronger by extending their control

0:10:11.040,0:10:19.920
over bigger chunks of land. Thus empires came into
existence merging identities of small communities

0:10:19.920,0:10:28.800
into a new concept of nationality. Big cities were
populated to centralize big businesses further.

0:10:28.800,0:10:36.720
From Ownership of Resources to Ownership of Money
The sizes of businesses grew larger and barter

0:10:36.720,0:10:44.320
system didn’t seem to be working efficiently for
them anymore. In such a scenario, token money

0:10:44.320,0:10:51.120
got conceptualized by the state that became the
commonly used currency for exchange of goods and

0:10:51.120,0:10:59.600
services. These currencies were given different
names by the states issuing them. Currency as

0:10:59.600,0:11:07.120
metal coins was way more portable than an item
to be used as barter for business deals. It

0:11:07.120,0:11:15.200
also enabled standardization of prices of various
commodities, services and products. No one other

0:11:15.200,0:11:21.200
than the state itself could mould those coins
as they were marked with the seal of the state.

0:11:22.240,0:11:25.840
Warfare
Adding to these woes

0:11:25.840,0:11:32.400
was the beginning of systemic warfare during this
same period, owing to the population increase and

0:11:32.400,0:11:41.680
land ownership that arose from those institutions
of property ownership, patriarchy and marriage.

0:11:41.680,0:11:48.960
Several evidences of such warfare have been
found in the excavations of Neolithic skeletons.

0:11:49.680,0:11:56.720
One such representative evidence has been found
in the massacre of Talheim Death Pit of 5500 BC

0:11:56.720,0:12:04.000
in Germany. It points to two neighboring tribes
in war with each other with the sole purpose of

0:12:04.000,0:12:11.120
capturing and securing each other’s women. This
can be deduced from the fact that there were no

0:12:11.120,0:12:17.360
female skeletons found on the defending tribe’s
turf suggesting that they were not killed but

0:12:17.360,0:12:23.920
taken along. There have been quite a few such
excavations suggesting that the main purpose of

0:12:23.920,0:12:29.920
Neolithic warfare was capturing women.
When evolution entered the Copper Age

0:12:29.920,0:12:38.160
from the Stone Age, more organized warfare took
place with the help of copper weapons. Soldiers

0:12:38.160,0:12:46.480
had started getting employed by city states
professionally as far back as 4,300 BC. In

0:12:46.480,0:12:54.400
3,000 BC, Hamoukar was completely destroyed
by warfare. Later city states were engulfed

0:12:54.400,0:13:03.680
by newly built empires like Babylonia and
Assyria in Mesopotamia. By 1700 BC, chariots

0:13:03.680,0:13:10.400
started playing the central role in warfare.
The Copper Age transitioned to the Bronze Age,

0:13:10.400,0:13:17.760
marking a gradual transition from prehistoric
age to historic times. Weapons turned more

0:13:17.760,0:13:26.400
lethal and empires kept fighting with one another.
Whenever warfare happened, thousands of soldiers

0:13:26.400,0:13:34.400
fought from each side. By now, army had gotten
professionally established as another inseparable

0:13:34.400,0:13:41.440
socio-political institution of human culture.
It only expanded further as the Bronze Age

0:13:41.440,0:13:46.800
transitioned to the Iron Age.
Warfare kept getting more lethal

0:13:46.800,0:13:52.640
and more organized by Homo sapiens
to kill members of their own species.

0:13:52.640,0:13:57.440
So, concluding up to this
point, during the Neolithic Period:

0:13:57.440,0:14:02.640
Achievements:
Replacing hunting gathering

0:14:02.640,0:14:10.240
with agriculture and rearing domestic
animals which is there in place to date

0:14:10.240,0:14:16.480
Establishing strong security systems
against attacks from predators

0:14:17.280,0:14:23.600
Accumulation of extra food storage
to use at times of emergencies

0:14:25.040,0:14:30.800
Sparing a chunk of population to engage in
developmental occupations other than food

0:14:30.800,0:14:36.640
production making life more comfortable
Losses:

0:14:37.840,0:14:43.040
Beginning of private property
turning life stressfully complex

0:14:44.080,0:14:49.280
An overall toll on human
health with lifestyle diseases

0:14:50.640,0:14:57.200
Matriarchy replaced with patriarchy
subjugating women as the secondary gender

0:14:57.200,0:15:03.600
Let us now proceed further beyond the Neolithic
period to assess human achievements and losses

0:15:03.600,0:15:11.680
to date. From the prehistoric age, we
are moving on to historic times below.

0:15:11.680,0:15:19.040
The rise of ancient civilizations
(3,000 BCE – 500 BCE):

0:15:19.040,0:15:25.520
The first complex civilization came up in the
city state of Sumer in Mesopotamia around 3,000

0:15:25.520,0:15:32.640
BCE. It started with a pictorial form of
writing system known as cuneiform script.

0:15:33.360,0:15:40.080
The trend further spread in the fertile river
valleys of the Old World. These included Tigris

0:15:40.080,0:15:50.480
and Euphrates in Mesopotamia, Nile in Egypt, Indus
in India with Yangtze and Yellow Rivers in China.

0:15:50.480,0:15:56.880
City states later turned into huge empires by
expanding their control, first, on neighboring

0:15:56.880,0:16:04.000
and, later, on far spread regions. New empires
kept rising and destroying the older ones to

0:16:04.000,0:16:14.080
establish their rule and control through warfare.
Post Classical History (500 BCE – 1,500 CE):

0:21:46.400,0:21:54.240
more than 7 million people. And that’s only the
official figure! If that weren’t enough, it also

0:21:54.240,0:22:02.000
seriously disrupted global trade, generating
widespread economic recession the world over.

0:22:02.000,0:22:07.040
Let us now synthesize the aforementioned
data of historical records in terms of

0:22:07.040,0:22:12.480
achievements and losses.
Achievements:

resources | Pandemics | Environmental
degradation | Human-induced climate change

0:23:09.680,0:23:15.360
Let us consider that this, our common history,
has brought us Homo sapiens to the present day

0:23:15.360,0:23:20.240
and placed us on the precipice of imminent
threat to all life on earth by human-induced

0:23:20.240,0:23:27.760
climate change. As we grapple with this reality,
it seems as though the scale of human progress

0:23:27.760,0:23:34.240
seems to have tilted toward losses a bit more
than toward achievements. Industrial revolution

0:23:34.240,0:23:42.240
was a great achievement but it also created the
demon of impending human-induced climate change.
